Learn printmaking!

We have professional, accessible printmaking facilities which you can use!

We offer a range of creative short courses in a variety of printmaking techniques, including etching, photo-etching, aquatint, collagraph, screen printing (paper and textiles), photo-plate lithography, linocut, lino-etching, letterpress and even bookbinding!

Whether you are new to printmaking, need a refresher, or want to develop your practice, we have a course or workshop to suit you - click on a course below to book your place, or see what’s coming up month-by-month using the drop-down menu on the toolbar above.

We offer high quality tuition by experienced, practicing artists, and we keep groups small, (maximum of eight), to give you a more practical and hands on experience. We welcome all – from complete beginners through to experienced printmakers, and all course prices include basic materials.

If you’re travelling to us from far afield, you can download our accommodation guide, to help you find somewhere to stay.

A guide to our courses:

Printmaker's Toolkit sessions

1 hour talk/demo sessions which offer an insight into an individual’s practice or a particular technique. These are a great introduction for anyone who is completely new to printmaking, but want to find out more without getting inky. They are also a fantastic way for experienced printmakers to find out about new techniques, and learn hints and tips from their peers. Attendees do not participate in any printmaking on these sessions, and you will need to attend a more in-depth course before joining the workshop as a member.

Taster Sessions and Day Workshops

3 – 6 hour workshops which introduce you to specific techniques. These are hands on, inky, creative and experimental sessions. Some preparation will have been done for you before you start on these sessions, and therefore you may still need further training before using the workshops as a member, depending on the technique taught.

Weekend Workshops and Summer Schools

10+ hour workshops which are intended to really immerse you in and show you all the basics of a particular technique, to get you to a stage where you are able to join the workshop as a member and continue using the facilities to make and develop your own work. (With the exception of Introduction to Printmaking).

In addition to our in-house course programme, we can also run bespoke courses and 1-1 tuition sessions. 1-1 tuition costs £30 per hour, and usually lasts for a minimum of 4 hours. As a general rule of thumb, we welcome beginners on most of our courses, but if you are unsure of which course is best for you, then please contact us and we’ll be happy to advise.

Here’s what some of our students have said:

“It far surpassed my expectations and at the risk of appearing overly effusive inspired and I think empowered me!”

“The facilities are superb and I really appreciate that the WYPW offers you the possibility to continue working on your own as well.”

“I can’t overstate how helpful this course has been. WYPW is a precious facility.”

If you need to cancel your place on a course and you give at least 10 working days notice, you will be offered a refund in the form of a credit note, valid for one year, which can be used in payment towards another course. Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds if the period of notice given is less than 10 working days. West Yorkshire Print Workshop reserves the right to cancel courses. If this happens, full refunds will be given.

Please note that some of our courses are not advisable for pregnant women.
