Funding success for WYPW

WYPW had received a £5000 grant from the National Lotterys Awards for All scheme.

The funding will enable the centre to run free arts workshops for children aged 8 to 14 over the coming year. Their success with the Lottery application comes just a few months after obtaining funding from the Kirklees Arts in the Neighbourhood scheme for assistance with the same project.

Mark Milnes, Development Officer at WYPW, explains: 'Its taken a couple of attempts to secure the funding, but this shows that persistence really does pay off. Im so pleased that we can now offer this opportunity to children and young people in the area and as the workshops are free, they really are open to everyone. The workshop will be appointing a lead artist within the next two weeks, and will then be publicising the scheme more widely. The workshops will run on two separate afternoon sessions per week during each of the school holidays periods, with 22 workshops per year planned. Each workshop will be based around a different subject or theme, which will be determined by the children taking part'.

Find out more on Saturday 28th March, when representatives of the workshop will be available to talk about the project at the Salvation Army building in Mirfield, from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Visitors to the forthcoming Spring Art and Crafts Fair at WYPW (Saturday 4th April) will be able to book places at the workshops, which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
