WYPW 25th birthday celebrations
Invitation to our 25th birthday celebrations, 20th November at WYPW

West Yorkshire Print Workshop (WYPW) is one of the leading open access printmaking workshops in the North of England. Established as an arts centre in 1984, this November marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Eastthorpe Gallery (now WYPW).

We invite you to join us for a special celebratory event on Friday 20th November, 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Art and music, food and drink, and the announcement of the winner of the first ever Flourish Award for Excellence in Printmaking We look forward to seeing you there.

WYPW Exhibitions and Events schedule, late 2009/early 2010:

17th November to 4th December: Flourish - an exhibition of contemporary printmaking by WYPW members. One exhibitor will be the recipient of the first ever Flourish Award for Excellence in

Printmaking, to be announced at our birthday celebration event on Friday 20th November, 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Join us for music, wine and this very special announcement All welcome.

5th December: Christmas Art and Craft Fair - the fair will feature a wide range of arts and crafts from local makers, including prints, painting, glassware, ceramics, textiles and much more. 11am to 5pm.

8th to 18th December: United - an exhibition of work by staff members of West Yorkshire Print Workshop (Kate Desforges, Karen Stansfield and Mark Milnes) featuring prints, sculpture and paintings.

12th to 28th January: Artworks by Dinah Bowden - a local artist and long-time friend of the workshop, Dinah will be presenting an exhibition of paintings inspired by local scenery in and around Mirfield, together with images informed by travels further afield. Preview on Friday 8th January, 6.30pm to 8.30pm

29th, 30th and 31st January: January Sale - pick up a bargain as WYPW members clear out their studios and offer their work at knock-down prices. All original artworks under £50

Artists Talks

Join us for a series of talks about printmaking. Talks are free to WYPW members and Kirklees residents aged 55 and over, with just a small charge for non-members.

Wednesday 2nd December, 7pm to 8.30pm: Ian Wrench and Julia Clegg, both established artist printmakers and members of the Inkers group, talk about their working practices and inspirations.

Sunday 6th December, 2pm to 4pm: Dr John Hewitt will discuss his collection of prints by important modern masters, including work by Rego, Frink, Hoyland and Ackroyd. Limited places, booking essential.

Life Drawing (untutored)*

Ease yourself back into the creative flow with a series of life drawing sessions. £5 per session for non-members, free to WYPW members and Kirklees residents aged 55 and over.

6th, 13th, 20th and 27th January, 7pm to 9pm

(*Please bring your own materials and drawing equipment, or ask for a list of available items from the WYPW shop)

Out and About with WYPW:

WYPW members often have the opportunity to exhibit at other venues; the following exhibitions have been arranged for late 2009 and early 2010. Join us at our preview events

28th November to 24th January: Smith Art Gallery, Brighouse - PREVIEW 28th November

20th January to 17th February: Options Create Centre, Dewsbury - PREVIEW 20th January

Celebrations will continue throughout the year (November 2009 to November 2010), and will include exhibitions, open days, workshops and talks.
