E-Bulletin1
Welcome to the first of a new fortnightly e-bulletin from West Yorkshire Print Workshop We hope that you will find these bulletins much easier to use than previous mailings from WYPW (apologies for all of the glitches weve been experiencing of late), and we would welcome your feedback please email me at wypwfunding@yahoo.co.uk with any thoughts on the new format. Similarly, please email any items for inclusion (exhibition news, opportunities, equipment for sale etc) with the word BULLETIN in the subject line.
The bulletin will feature upcoming opportunities for WYPW members, plus a round-up of what we have going on at the workshop exhibitions, courses and other events. This first one is a packed edition, as we currently have a lot going on If youd like more in depth information on any of the items featured in the bulletin, please email either myself or the WYPW office info@wypw.org or see the website: www.wypw.org.

1.News

Its fair to say that weve had a good fortnight at the workshop. We found out that our application to the Kirklees Creative Partners Investment Programme has been successful, gaining us invaluable support from the Kirklees Arts and Creative Economy Unit. The investment from the programme will enable us to extend our programme of exhibitions and events and stabilise our staffing situation over the coming three years. The best news that weve had in a long time ...

Also, weve secured around £5000 in funding from the Kirklees Young Peoples Service holiday programme to deliver a range of art and craft activities over the Summer period. The activities are aimed at two age groups: 8 to 12 year olds, and 13 to 19 year olds. Well also be running an outreach activity day at Dewsburys Arena Centre. More news about the programme and how to book will be included in the next bulletin.

We have a new Assistant Technician/Gallery Worker Paul Fox - starting at the workshop next week: a six month post funded by the Future Jobs Fund. Paul will be learning about all things printmaking during his first few weeks, helping out with gallery invigilation and taking part in events and workshops. Were very much looking forward to having him around.

Liadin Cooke Thursday 17th June 7pm to 8.30pm

She has exhibited widely both in the UK and abroad - solo exhibitions include shows at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Henry Moore Institute and PS1, New York. In recent years, her practice has moved away from installation towards object making, resulting in more intimate work.
Liadin is currently showing her work holden at Huddersfield Art Gallery as part of 'Dialogues' (a series of shows inviting local artists to respond to works from the Kirklees collection). She will talk about the current exhibition and give an international perspective on making and exhibiting artwork.

Julia Clegg / Ian Wrench Sunday 27th June 2pm to 4pm
Ian Wrench and Julia Clegg, both established artist printmakers and members of the Inkers group, talk about their working practices and inspirations. Ian is a studio holder and board member at WYPW; Julia recently won the first Flourish Award for Excellence in Printmaking, and will be showing work at Huddersfield Art Gallery during June and July.

Liam Spencer Sunday 18th July 2pm to 4pm
Popular artist Liam Spencer is best known for his distinctive urban landscapes of Manchester and Salford, one of which hangs in the permanent collection at City Art Gallery Manchester. He is an artist who sees something fresh and interesting in the everyday life of the city. Scenes include buildings, bridges, canals, motorways, industrial buildings, rooftops, traffic and the city at night. He was featured in a 30 minute BBC documentary A Picture of Manchester in 2005. Exhibiting at WYPW as part of the Urban exhibition, this talk will give an insight into the successful career of an artist who is established on the British art scene.
