1. WYPW NEEDS YOUR HELP
Our building on Huddersfield Road is quite old and, in many parts, out-dated. As such we are currently undertaking a project to refurbish and update the place. We have joined the Vodafone ‘Just Text Giving’ campaign so that anyone may text donations to us to help us improve the building for everyone.
You can help us by following these simple steps:

To donate, text WYPW10 to 70070 or visit www.justgiving.com/westyorkshireprintws/donate.
Many, many thanks to everybody who has donated already!

2. EMMA LAWRENSON ‘UNCLUTTERED’ PRIVATE VIEW TONIGHT!
Thursday 3rd November, 6:30 – 8:30pm, all welcome.
We are delighted to be showing recent work by Emma Lawrenson. Emma won last year’s Flourish Award and subsequently had a successful solo exhibition at Huddersfield Art Gallery. Emma's abstract images explore shape, line and form through the layering of colours and painterly marks. All her work is inspired by what she sees around her. This is often organic forms such as leaves and seeds. She states; ‘The best starting point for a piece of work is something observed by chance. I love catching the essence of things as they appear momentarily.’
Emma studied printmaking at the Royal College of Art in the late 90s where she won the prestigious Oriana award for her MA graduation show. She exhibits extensively in the UK as well as selling work globally. She now prepares her work in her home studio near Holmfirth and makes most of her prints at WYPW. She is currently working towards a solo show at the Duckett and Jeffreys Art Gallery in 2012.
If you wish to attend the Private View evening on the 3rd November 6.30pm - 8.30pm, please RSVP to wypwgallery@yahoo.co.uk.
‘Uncluttered’ runs until Saturday November 12th in the WYPW gallery.

8. 20x20
After the success of last year’s 20:20 Print Exchange organised by Hot Bed Press, 10 members of WYPW have again taken part this year, to each produce an original, limited edition print on 20 x 20cm paper. It was really exciting to see all the prints being produced in the WYPW workshops, and I think we’ve got a really great variety of styles and techniques this year. They have now been boxed up and sent off to Hot Bed Press, and each artist and workshop which has taken part will receive back a box of 20 randomly selected prints – one of their own and 19 others. There were around 15 other workshops from around the UK and Ireland taking part this year, and it was really good to be involved in such a big project.
West Yorkshire Print Workshop will be displaying 40 of these prints – including all 10 produced by WYPW members – in the downstairs corridor gallery, from FRIDAY 25TH NOVEMBER, which un-coincidentally is also the date of the FLOURISH PRINT AWARD prizegiving evening from 6.30 – 8.30pm, so you can come and see the 20:20 prints at the same time!
There are a few more images of the prints up on our blog - you can view them here: wypw.blogspot.com/

10. THIS MONTH IN THE OFFICE
Panic struck early in the month as Buzz Lightyear, guardian of the editor's keys and former Space Ranger, was kidnapped in what was later discovered to be retaliation to a minor fright received by the technician. His whereabouts were unknown for most of an otherwise bright and sunny Wednesday with the only evidence being a series of disturbing photographs posted on the editor's Facebook page. Initial investigations suggested that he'd been smuggled to the Far East as part of the manager's "vacation", possibly to be sold into slavery.
Eventually, around tea time, after a slip up by the technician and some Poirot-esque detective work from the editor, Buzz was found safe and well, nestled inside the apron pocket of said technician.
Buzz has settled back into his normal life well, but still sports the scars, both physically and emotionally, of his harrowing ordeal.
It is unknown whether the technician was working for the Evil Emperor Zurg (a.k.a. the Gallery Manager).
