1. PRESS NEWS!
Our brand spanking new (to us, at least) press is due for arrival sometime in February. When it has settled in we shall be holding a christening/welcoming event where members and non-members alike are invited to come along to WYPW to try out the new press and submit ideas for its name. The dates for this event will be decided in due course.
In related press news, WYPW are paying a visit to Leicester Print Workshop to check out their Letterpress facilities. Kate will be blogging about the visit on the WYPW blog, so make sure you follow her adventures here.

The downstairs print room will be unavailable on Thursday 12th January due to rearrangement in preparation for the arrival of the new Imperial Press. It will be open as usual the following week, although the layout will be a little bit different and may still change again in the weeks to come. We hope you can bear with us during this exciting time.

3. ART LOOP EXHIBITION: A GAME OF VISUAL CHINESE WHISPERS
The Gallery at West Yorkshire Print Workshop is proud to announce our new exhibition programme for 2012 with ‘Yorkshire Art Loop’ which opens on 5th January 2012 and runs until the 28th January. There will be a private view on 12th January from 6.30pm - 8.30pm. ALL WELCOME! Please RSVP to patrick@wypw.org.
This wonderful collaborative art project ‘Yorkshire Art Loop’ features the work of 33 artists who have participated in this project which brings together the WYVAN group of artists and organisations working across West Yorkshire. More information about WYVAN can be found in the notes section below.
The project began when the Barnsley Bard Ian McMillan wrote a poem just for the project. The poem was called ‘Apple Dream’ and was presented to a large group of artists and makers in April 2011. The 33 artists who took part formed 3 groups who then formed 3 lists. The first person on each list had the poem secretly revealed to them, they went away and made the first piece of artwork in response to the poem, and this was then sent to the next person on the list. The new piece of art work each time being forwarded onto the next person on the list and the one they had received returned to a collection point. A sort of art Chinese whispers. Only the first person on each list got to see the poem, that is until we were sure artists had made their work and passed it on, they were then invited to make a second piece of work directly in response to the poem, which was then revealed to them.
The Art Loop project created a large collection of art work by artists and organisations within the WYVAN group, these included The Art House in Wakefield, West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield, Pop Up art space (Fabric) in Bradford, Loca in Kirklees, and East Street Arts in Leeds. These organisations are all part of WYVAN – West Yorkshire Visual Arts Network.

7. A NOTE FROM THE TEAM
We here at WYPW are currently on a mission to refurbish our building for the benefit of us, our members and everyone in the community who might come to visit. This mainly involves trying to secure funding bids, but we have also taken it upon ourselves to personally do some of the redecorating.
As such we would love to hear from you if you have any old paint, paint brushes, rollers, window sealant or any other unwanted bits of decorating kit that you’d like to donate to us to help us get the job done and save a little bit of money on the way.
We also welcome volunteers with wide open arms if you’ve got some free time and fancy giving us a hand!

F. EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY - LEEDS MET GALLERY
Pumped up Kicks Energy? Kids? Violence?
Young Curators at Leeds Met Gallery & Studio Theatre are looking for artworks based around the criminality of the youthful population. Is Britain’s future about to snap? National riots, gang crime, premature death. Newspapers are spattered with daily horror stories of irrational behaviour from the section of the population we’d least expect. Why?
Pumped up Kicks is looking for controversy: the more edgy, the better: questioning, thought-provoking artworks in a range of media is what we’re after.
The exhibition will be in late February 2012 in the heart of Leeds City Centre.
Send up to 5 images of your suitable work, plus video and audio if appropriate (links or attachments welcome), a CV and maximum 500 word statement about the work to:
youngcurators@hotmail.co.uk or Young Curators, Leeds Met Gallery & Studio Theatre, Queens Square Court, Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds, LS2 8AG.
Deadline: Tuesday 17
th January.

H. CUPOLA GALLERY’S UNDER THE BED SALE 2012
This is a call for artists to DELIVER WORK for Cupola Gallery’s Under the Bed Sale 2012.
We're pleased to announce that now Christmas and the New Year have been and gone, it is time to prepare for another exciting Under the Bed Sale at Cupola. Whether it's your first time or you're an old hand at it, have a good rummage and see what lovely things you can uncover for our take on the January sales.
For those who don't know, this is a non-selected ‘Sale’ rather than a Show. We ask artists to deliver
original art that is of an older nature, it may be artwork that is currently stored under the bed, in a drawer or cupboard or in the corner of your studio (or at your mum’s). Work from the past; say your Foundation days or Arts Degree Course. In other words work that hasn’t seen the light of day for quite a while.
Customers are looking for a bargain at an average price of £50 or less. There is a maximum of £300. Cupola will accept work that is not mounted, unframed and slight seconds (This should be noted on the artwork). We would like a cross section of work that represents all art mediums i.e. Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics, Glass Work, Photography, Drawing, Sculpture and Jewellery. If an artist delivers work which has previously been exhibited anywhere, then the retail price needs to be at least 50% lower than its original selling price.

OPEN EVENINGS
Tuesday 17th January 7.30pm and Friday 20th January 7.30pm

I. 3RD BIENNIAL FOOTPRINT INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION 2012
Entry Deadline: 21
st April 2012
Exhibition: 10
th June - 2
nd September 2012
Opening Reception: Sunday 10
th June 2012, 2–5 pm
Juror: Donald Sultan, artist
About the Competition:
The Center for Contemporary Printmaking is delighted to announce the 3rd Biennial Footprint International 2012: a competition and exhibition for fine-art prints that are exactly one foot square.
The square format was uncommon in art until the advent of 20th century abstraction. Rectangular horizontal and vertical shapes for landscape and portraiture, respectively, were, and in fact still are, the norm. For one thing, composing in the square is an artistic challenge.
Footprint International 2012 presents an opportunity for contemporary printmakers to address the square in 12 inches by 12 inches (30.5 x 30.5 cm). Footprint International is held every other year, alternating with CCP’s biennial International Miniature Print Competition.
