5. PASS THE BOOK

WYPW Artist/Printmaker Participation Project
We are pleased to announce that our 'Pass the Book' project has started. The first person to make their mark in the book was Kate Desforges and you can see Kate's progress by following the Pass the Book Facebook page.

The artist who is currently working in the book is Jenny Thomas. We have approximately 60 artists taking part in 'Pass the Book' which is an amazing response, if you are interested in joining the project, please get in touch. The 'Pass the Book' project extends an invitation to artists/printmakers/writers and creative thinkers and doers to contribute to our book. If you have your pen poised and want to take part simply email patrick@wypw.org.

The idea behind the book is to celebrate good old fashioned 'analogue' hands on creativity! We live in a digital age where nearly everything is created remotely in a flat digital world whether it be screen or tablet. Here at West Yorkshire Print Workshop we celebrate hands on creativity everyday through our creative screen printing, etching and letterpress courses. For well over 25 years West Yorkshire Print Workshop has been getting down and dirty (literally) with the wonders of good old fashioned messy ink, paper and creativity, and now it's your turn!

6. KNIT-TOGETHER

WYPW Craft Participation Project
We are launching a collaborative knitting and crochet project called 'Knittogether' at WYPW. We are looking to collaborate with individuals, local community groups and worldwide knitting and crochet networks to create a knitted installation to be displayed on our staircase gallery and on the WYPW building itself.

The project explores the notion of community and creatively working together, whether this be in the same room or across the globe. We will be asking for people to supply individual panels of knitting approx.  12" x 12" which can be stitched together with other panels to create wall coverings for the staircase gallery and also be installed on the exterior of the building.

If you are interested or would like to find out more information, please get in touch by emailing patrick@wypw.org.

7. CRAFT CLUB CANCELLED

Sad News!
Roberta, our Saturday Craft Club leader, is sadly having to leave us and move over to Manchester.

Great News!
It's been decided that for the near future until we can find a craft leader the group will continue to be Crafty here at WYPW on alternate Saturdays. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

So the next Craft Club is Saturday 13th October. If you want to share a skill or just want to chat with other creative people and share a cup of tea and biscuit then pop in!

8. WYPW MEMBER TAKING OVER AMERICA

Artworks by our lovely and talented members are going global these days.

For fans of the 1960s set American TV series ‘Mad Men’, you could soon be seeing glimpses of WYPW member Emma Lawrenson’s work adorning the set walls. Emma has recently had two pieces, ‘Blue Triangle’ (above, left)  and ‘Side Step’ (above, right) bought by the set-designer of the popular advertising-based drama.

This is the second time Emma has had work picked up by American TV, following the use of some of her other work for ‘Parenthood’.

9. NOTICE TO MEMBERS

Effective immediately we have had to change the name of the ‘Screen Room’ to the ‘Scream Room’ due to the misunderstandings of a small boy from a visiting school who was possibly a little ill-informed as to the nature of the room.

When booking printing time, particularly by email, it would be helpful if you could ask for the newly monikered ‘Scream Room’ to avoid any confusion.

I’m sure Kate will greatly appreciate it!
