CMYK Screen Printing
CMYK screen printing, (or four colour separation), enables you to make full-colour screen prints from computer-generated artwork. Bring a high-resolution, full-colour image of your own digital photograph to make a small series of full-colour prints.
With instruction, demonstration and examples, you will be guided through the whole CMYK screen printing process. Using photo-editing software, images are separated into the cyan, magenta, yellow and black colour layers, and a ‘halftone’ filter is applied to ensure that the image is of up made up of dots. The image layers are then outputted onto transparencies, transferred onto screens using the photo-emulsion technique, and printed in register on top of one-another, to create a finished print.
In this hands-on course you will learn how to colour-separate images on the computer, transfer these onto screens and print your own art work. Learners will come away from the course with a thorough knowledge of the technique and new set of skills to apply to making work.
We are delighted to welcome artist Sumiko Eadon back to WYPW to teach this fascinating screen printing process. Sumiko was an exhibiting artist in our 2018 ‘Japan’ summer exhibition, and was a shortlisted artist for the WYPW 2016 Flourish Printmaking Award. Printmaking, (uncertainty and everyday encounter with errors), is currently Sumiko’s main practice.
This course is recommended for those who have had some previous experience of screen printing. Complete beginners are advised to attend one of our other workshops which will focus more on the basic principles of screen printing. Please get in touch and we’ll be happy to advise.
All course prices include basic materials such as inks, paper, tools and equipment. Other materials and printmaking papers will be available to buy during the course if you would like to try something a bit different, or take some materials home to try out.
After attending this course you will be well equipped to join our workshop as a member and continue to use our facilities to make and develop your own work. The sooner the better, as the longer you leave it the more you are likely to forget! If you join up within one month of attending the course you will receive a £5 discount. Find out more about the benefits of membership here: http://www.wypw.org/shop/standard-membership/
