Description

Come and get your hands inky and your creativity flowing in a friendly, artistic environment! This session will introduce you to the technique of drypoint, an ‘intaglio’ printmaking process, where a sharp tool is used to scratch marks into the surface of a perspex plate, and a print is taken from ink which is held within these marks. Learners will be guided through the process of plate making, inking and printing in the traditional intaglio way.

Our new taster sessions offer an introduction to some of the key printmaking techniques offered and practiced here at WYPW, and a glimpse into the processes involved in creating hand-made prints. You will be guided and encouraged by experienced artists who use printmaking in their own art practice, in a professionally equipped workshop setting.

Experience level

Taster sessions are designed for people who have little or no prior knowledge or experience of printmaking, and are also great for those who want to a refresher of a particular technique.

Your tutor

Cath Brooke has been making prints since she was first hooked at an evening class at Leeds College of Art over 20 years ago. She has been facilitating community arts projects for many years including teaching print to beginners and those with experience. Her approach to producing prints starts with an idea developed from sketches, but then evolves as the process takes over and she responds to the unexpected marks and colours in each layer.

What’s included?

All course prices include basic materials such as inks, paper, tools and equipment. Other materials and printmaking papers will be available to buy during the course if you would like to try something a bit different, or take some materials home to try out.

What next?

After attending a taster session in monoprint, drypoint or linocut, you will be able to join WYPW as a member to continue to practice the skills you have learned. Screen printing and etching are processes which involve a bit more practice, so we would advise that learners attend a further course in these techniques before joining us as a member. Sign up for membership within one month of attending the course you will receive a £5 discount. Find out more about membership here: http://www.wypw.org/shop/standard-membership/
