Join our 2016 Flourish Award Winner Amy Jane Blackhall at Huddersfield Art Gallery for a very special Printmaker’s Toolkit Session! This session will be held at Huddersfield Art Gallery and followed by the private view of Amy Jane’s Flourish Award Prizewinner’s exhibition from 2 -4 – all welcome. This is a fantastic opportunity to see Amy Jane talk about her printmaking practice and the processes she uses to create the work which will be on show in the exhibition in a relaxed, informal setting.
Amy-Jane Blackhall’s work emerges from her fascination with the concept of interconnectedness, through the physical and spiritual act of making, particularly the repetitive nature of printmaking. Underlying structures are central to Amy-Jane’s imagery; derived from sacred places, she frequently references archetypal symbols, Oriental art and Eastern ideologies. Recurring themes in her work reflect on how the universality has a strong aesthetic appeal transcending space and time, language and culture.
After graduating from University with a Fine Art degree Amy-Jane worked at 107 Workshop under Master Printer Jack Shirreff for three and half years before its closure at the end of 2011. She worked on editions for Gillian Ayres, Deborah Bell, Celia Cook, John Eaves, Howard Hodgkin & Patrick Hughes.
Building on that experience Amy-Jane was offered work at Rabley Drawing Centre, near Marlborough, Wiltshire as Studio Printmaker. Her roles for a further three years included the management of the Drawing School and weekly Studio & Print sessions, as well as working on in-house print publications with artists Naomi Frears, Endellion Lycett Green, Sara Lee, Nik Pollard & Emma Stibbon RA and assisting at the Rabley Contemporary gallery.
Amy Jane is also founder of INK on PAPER PRESS, a Fine Art print and editioning studio based in Wiltshire, UK. The INK on PAPER PRESS studio spaces enable Amy-Jane to work with artists on a one-to-one basis to originate and edition prints, alongside developing her own art practice and providing technical support at the Studio & Print sessions at Rabley Drawing Centre.
(As this session is offsite in HAG, there will not be the usual demonstration element, however Amy will be bringing plenty of examples of proof prints, etc, for you to look at).
