Join artist Scarlette Homeshaw for this immersive weekend course exploring the reduction method of lino printing.
Unlike traditional lino printing, reduction lino involves cutting away the surface of one lino block in stages and printing each stage, layer by layer, on top of the last, creating a multi-coloured, tonal print. Intricate detail can be achieved as well as bold abstract imagery, and the result can be as stylised and individual as the maker chooses.
Over the weekend you will develop a set of finished multi-layer lino prints as well as taking away with you the skills and knowledge to experiment with this highly adaptive technique. The course will cover each element of the process, from preparing your lino block, to carving, inking and printing, as well as registration methods and editioning your prints.
This course is suitable for beginners and well as those looking to learn a new printmaking technique or wanting a process refresher.
Scarlette Homeshaw is a Huddersfield based printmaker and studio holder here at WYPW. She specialises in reduction lino printing and was the winner of the WYPW 2013 Flourish Award for excellence in printmaking.
All course prices include basic materials such as inks, paper, tools and equipment. Other materials and printmaking papers will be available to buy during the course if you would like to try something a bit different, or take some materials home to try out.
